Education and Awards
Dr. McLaughlin graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English from the University at Buffalo. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. McLaughlin received her training as a psychologist and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been published in peer reviewed journals and presented at professional conferences. Dr. McLaughlin is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Prior to opening her first practice in Park Slope, Dr. McLaughlin was Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. As a psychologist at the NYU Child Study Center she worked with children, adolescents and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, tics/Tourette Disorder, behavior and attention problems. Additionally, she was involved in research and the training of pre-doctoral interns and externs. Dr. McLaughlin's prior experience also includes providing therapeutic services within psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment facilities, schools and out-patient mental health centers.
As a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. McLaughlin's interest in child advocacy and the mental health of those in impoverished environments grew. Dr. McLaughlin's dissertation and research efforts enhanced her interest in the emotional quality of the home environment and parenting on mental health outcomes. Dr. McLaughlin continues to be passionate about working with parents to help them ensure their own needs are met, as well as in the context of parenting sessions designed to improve skill and confidence related to effective parenting.
Dr. McLaughlin is licensed in both New York and New Jersey. She currently provides services to children, adolescents and adults within her private practice in New Jersey where she specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders. She also offers consultation and supervision to young professionals.
Dr. McLaughlin is a parent and avid runner. Growing up a competitive swimmer led to a lasting love for exercise as she now enjoys training for marathons. Dr. McLaughlin has a strong interest in working with athletes, helping to remove the barriers that anxiety and related issues might have on their performance.
